Gratitude for the New Year, and for the New Yorker, who is currently residing with us here in Kansas; David Yarrow! David has been one of the sparks that is igniting our growing Sustainable Community Development Initiative. In addition to being part of the organizing team for Four Oaks Farm, David is planning to teach a series of classes at The Learning for Life Center!!! He is a teacher, and practitioner of Eating Food – Real Food! And are we ever blessed to have him with us right here in Topeka! Our first class with David will be this coming Wednesday evening, January 11th, from 7 – 9 p.m. Please note that the Acid and Alkaline class will be repeated again in February.
Cost for these classes is $15 per class. However if you enroll in all four classes, cost is only $40 for all four, making tuition really affordable at only $10 per class. Payment in the form of cash, check, or credit card can be made when you come to class. Please arrive early – between 6:30 and 6:45 p.m. to enroll, greet friends and make a cup of tea! Bring friends, family members, and your questing mind, body and spirit.
The class is a full two hours of amazing information; science, stories and support for you and your body. We, at the Learning for Life Center, are committed to making changes in the way we eat and are focused this Winter on learning healing ways of cooking and eating. We are choosing to support ourselves, and our community, as we journey together to create more healthy ways of eating and living in our bodies. We look forward to learning, cooking and eating together in 2012!
Wed. January 11 – Acid & Alkaline – a quest for balance
Wed. January 18 – Sugar Blues – carbohydrates for energy & health
Wed. January 25 – The Spark of Life – minerals, trace minerals & electrolytes
Wed. February 1 – Where’s the Beef? – protein & animal food for healing diets
Wed. February 8 – Acid & Alkaline – a quest for balance
Acid & Alkaline
a quest for balance
Your body's fundamental chemical factor is acid-alkaline balance. A farmer growing food knows to test the soil pH before seed is planted. We know acid rain causes sick and dying trees and lakes, but acid blood is behind much chronic illness and degenerative disease. Can you pass the litmus test? Give your kidneys a rest. Learn to live in the “Neutral Zone.” Learn to choose and cook food to balance your blood chemistry.
Sugar Blues
carbohydrates for energy & health
Imagine life without sweetness, and you got the blues. Blood sugar is essential for energy and awareness; and carbohydrates are our most essential nutrient. Each year each American eats over 120 pounds of sugar—refined, purified, incomplete, and unnatural. The result is our rising tide of metabolic and degenerative diseases. Discover the whole truth about carbohydrates. Taste true sweetness. Tame your sweet tooth. Learn to eat for optimum energy and health
The Spark of Life
minerals, trace elements & electrolytes
Minerals provide electric charge needed for our body chemistry to react—for us to eat, sense, think, and act. Electrolytes are sparks to charge cells, activate enzymes and power metabolism. Science believes human nutrition requires 26 minerals for essential health. Fifteen are trace elements needed at parts per million or less. Farm chemicals, water treatment and food processing remove minerals—especially trace elements—from soils, foods and water. Get enough of every element your body needs for optimum health, physical energy and immunity. Get the most from the least. Discover full spectrum nutrition.
Where’s the Beef?
protein & animal food for healing diets
We only have two kinds of food: plant & animal. Is man a predator? How much protein is enough? What is the best quality? How do I balance carbohydrates and protein? Eschewing meat means more than avoiding animal food. Careful, conscious choices are needed to assure proper protein balance during a healing journey, with or without animal food. Get a full meal, with or without meat. Learn to complement amino acids for complete proteins by simple food combinations.Rich Text AreaToolbarBold (Ctrl + B)Italic (Ctrl + I)Strikethrough (Alt + Shift + D)Unordered list (Alt + Shift + U)Ordered list (Alt + Shift + O)Blockquote (Alt + Shift + Q)Align Left (Alt + Shift + L)Align Center (Alt + Shift + C)Align Right (Alt + Shift + R)Insert/edit link (Alt + Shift + A)Unlink (Alt + Shift + S)Insert More Tag (Alt + Shift + T)Proofread WritingToggle fullscreen mode (Alt + Shift + G)Show/Hide Kitchen Sink (Alt + Shift + Z)Add NextGEN Gallery
