Sunflowers, Seeds and Soul Journeys

2012 – Days #12, 13, & 14                                                                             January 12, 13, 14, 2012

Gratitude #1  – My Son & Sunflowers

Grateful for the life of my son, Micah Seth Rolfs and for sunflowers. I love this photo of him with sunflowers from our Learning for Life Center Garden!   His habit of expressing GRATITUDE EVERY DAY is a habit I have tried to cultivate in my life, especially during the past two years, since his death.  Sunflowers, like pine cones and like the pineal gland (the third eye) have similar energies of sacred geometry and Fibonacci petal patterns. The upcoming anniversary of his transition is a challenge for me.  I am in need of connecting with his and my community of friends as this time approaches.  If you would like to join me in memory and celebration of Micah's life, please come to The Learning for Life Center on Monday, January 23rd. at 6:30 p.m.  Bring photos, songs, and stories to share if you wish.  If you can't join us in person, you might connect to Micah's Facebook Page or the Topeka Capital Journal Obituary Page and Legacy.com to light a candle, or share a thought.   We will also begin planning the third annual “Micah's Kite Flight.” which will happen in May.

Soul Journeys: Grieving & Growing

Two years ago, on the 23rd. of this month, Micah, age 29,  transitioned from his physical, earthly body.  He began his Soul Journey to the Other Side on January 19, 2010, and, after several days in the ICU, completed his journey here in Earth School.  His organs were donated to others so that they might live. His cellular energy lives on in new ways.  I miss Micah every day!  I grieve and I grow. Now, I have a different sense of empathy for others dealing with loved ones dying, or dealing with heartbreaking sadness in their lives.  I know heartbreak and the sense of powerlessness in the face of the reality of death. I also see that I am changed, more humble and more real. Yesterday, my friend's husband passed away.  She had supported our family in our process  two years ago, and now I have the opportunity to support her family on this most sacred of Soul Journeys.  I was with them until about an hour before he transitioned and felt the awe and wonder of his passing in much the same way I have felt awe at the time of a birth! Since Micah died, I often ponder about the meaning of life and the  experience of  death, dying, crossing over, etc.

Transitions – It's Your choice!

Altar of Light and Life: Soul Journeys + Sunflowers + Seeds = Transformation

I am beginning to see transitioning as a metaphor for the process of leaving one place and moving on to a new and different place; releasing that which is no longer needed, closing one door and opening others.  For instance, we will soon be closing out our old dysfunctional website and opening up whole new ways of communicating with our various communities.  Soon you will have an opportunity to choose to receive my Daily Blog  or just get information on specific activities such as Yoga,  Dialogues or Energy Practitioners, etc.  It will be YOUR CHOICE!  So, please, bear with us as we transition to our new renovated, rejuvenated Learning for Life Center Website.

Gratitude #2: Attitude and Altars

Gratitude for growing more conscious about life and how to deal with transitions.  We go from first grade to second grade, from being single to being married, from being married to being single again; from being employed to unemployed, from going school to going to work;  and from having a physical body to having a non-physical body.  However, what I realize more and more, is that transitions are part of our every day… moment-to-moment life here on earth, and it is our GRATITUDE AND OUR ATTITUDES that make the difference.  Given that the only constant is change, I get to choose whether to embrace it or fight it.  One of my favorite ways to deal with my emotions is to do art or create an altar; and that is what I did last night.  I did both.  I was so filled with emotion, heightened awareness, sadness, and sensitivity that I needed a creative outlet. My intention was to intuitively create an altar for Micah, my friend's husband, and for all those who might be grieving, as well as to celebrate the lives of those who had died.  The Sunflowers symbolize the full bloom and gifts of that person's life. The Seeds symbolize the seeds planted by that person during his or her lifetime… seeds that will grow and bloom in others – like my taking on Micah's habit of expressing Three Gratitudes each day.  With an auto-immune disease and great health challenges, he shifted his attitudes by his use of gratitudes! So, now you know the story behind my sharing at least one of my gratitudes with you each day.

Gratitude #3 – Our Soul Journeys & Our Community

I am grateful for your patience as I experiment, express and energize myself and this new way of communicating.  I am deeply grateful to Verne for wholeheartedly taking on this project to transition and transform our lives, The Learning for Life Center, and its community connections. I am transforming my grief into growth and my attitude into one of gratitude for the love and light and wonder of nature, sunflowers, and the seeds of potential in ALL SITUATIONS!   I believe we are called to remember that we are all on Soul Journeys, unique and independent;  as well as being connected to each other within the interdependent web of life.  We invite you to co-create and collaborate with us as we continue to create community!
